}-**-coordinated-**-{
the other night, i had a date night with my BFF Shari. it seems we get together every 3 or 4 weeks to go watch a movie...and it is ALWAYS the funniest movie ever (until we watch it again at home, and realize it was the experience and the company that made the movie so great). we dont always see comedies but when we do it feels like we are the only ones laughing in the entire theater...and we laugh HARD! and we a'int embarassed! the most recent encounter at the movies was particularly funny. We went to see 4 christmases (it was good. i wont buy it, but i laughed until my tummy hurt) and we purchased our usual jumbo bag of popcorn, then proceeded our seats. I asked her where she wanted to sit, and she told me to choose. I thought I picked a good row, perfect distance from the screen. i teased about which chair i was going to sit in moving side to side pretending to sit down, and then standing again, squat to sit, then slide over, etc. after i had made my final selection on the perfect chair, i sat down to find that the bottom of the chair was actually broken off from the back of the chair! while i was falling, i tried to save my pride and fall gracefully...but that went out the window. but what i did manage to save was our jumbo popcorn. not a single buttery piece was dropped! while the entire theater is laughing at me, a nice lady reaches OVER Shari (who is hunched over laughing her face off) and offers to help me up. For the first 5 minutes of the movie, i giggled and reacted to what had just happened. "did i really pick the only broken chair in the entire theater? after i teased about which chair i was going to sit in?" and i still a'int embarassed. i feel it was quite CLASSIC! it's always good to get a good laugh at yourself.

Chaperone?
I've got to admit...i'm slightly BAH HUMBUG this year! don't get me wrong, i LOVE Christmas, but my camera is dead, and i've been so busy that there really hasn't been much time for decorating, christmas shopping, blogging, etc. So let me give a quick update on what has been going on with me the last few weeks...
1. My Freshman girls won their first basketball game of the season today! I cannot tell you how much they have grown as basketball players and as a team. I told them before the game started that i know they can win and they believed me! They played with so much heart and won by 11! It's nice to see the things that i'm teaching them being used in games! They are all wonderful girls and I am looking forward to coaching them the rest of the season.
2. My camera is dead...sorry no pictures! We have been playing outside in the beautiful weather but don't have any pictures to prove it.
3. Sick boys...Clifton has been sick for about 2 weeks now, and Curtis is about 3 days behind him. I have been fortunate enough to feel just fine, and not get sick. But i have a feeling that it's gonna hit me and it's gonna be hard! I know it's coming...dun da duh!!!
4. Round Valley Tournament...Last week i went with the varsity girls to the Round Valley tournament and had a blast!!! i had 2 girls in my room with me which was way fun. we talked girl talk and i was reminded of how much i hated high school. We beat the home team which was unexpeted! Kindof nice being the underdog! Well, going along the the title of this post, i have a story for you!.......Having attended the tournament several years ago, i anticipated what the weekend would be like. For example, 3 games going on at once (in the dome), rival teams staying in the same hotel, 2 games a day, etc. One aspect that i put way back in my mind was the annual dance that goes hand in hand with the tournament. Coach asked me if i would "chaperone" the girls at the dance, and bring them home in one piece. To maximize our dance time, we got there early (i think we may have been the first team there) because we had the early game the next morning so we had to leave the dance early. With me so far? Good. I danced with my girls and enjoyed bonding with them outside of basketball, and then a slow song came on. Remember how high school dances work? everyone scatters and finds a chair on the wall! I kept a good eye and all of my girls making sure that they were being appropriate, but at the same time, I found myself feeling sorry for my high school self sitting during the slow song (weird how my mind went back to high school). Don't get me wrong...in no way was i there to dance with teenage boys! but i felt sad for myself because it was like i was in high school again. funny! anyway, the very next song, was a country song and out of the corner of my eye i see a boy walking towards me. "Do you wanna dance?" he askes. "Sure!" As i stand up to dance with this young man, i glance down the line of girls sitting in chairs against the wall, and shake my fist in the air like i just won first place in the "Make A Boy Feel Awkward Competition" !!! The conversation went like this:
Boy: So you from around here?
Me: No...
Boy: Oh so where are you from?
Me: Thatcher
Boy: Cool. So you play?
Me: Nope...
Boy: Oh, so...um, you're a coach?
Me: Yup!
Boy: Okay...
Me: What's your name?
Boy: James
Me: Cool! What grade are you in James?
James: I'm a senior.
Poor kid! He probably thought he as doing a good thing and asked the girl who sat by herself to dance! Anyway, we ended the dance with a high five, and i walked back to a crowd of giddy girls wanting to hear the story!
PAH!!! So fun!
The next day, i was approched by many of the other chaperones and they told me that i was quite the dancer, and when the girls and i took off the party died! Oh what fun!
Pictures to come soon (as soon as i get my camera fixed)!!! and sorry for the bad grammar and spelling...it's late and stuff!

Cliftons Thoughts
Well I know its womens business to do the blogging for these family sites but every once in a while I, Clifton, get the urge to share. Scary!
Well Curtis is exploring and learning and can not get enough of the park. We can spend two hours at a park and he will ask for more. I sometimes bribe him with treats to stop playing and go home. We will get home and get the treat and he'll say "Daddy, Park", as if this was just a pit stop for more park time. He makes me laugh. I get to spend alot of time with Curtis because of Janiels and my shedule. Janiel is gone on trips alot and so Curtis and I hang out during those times. We are pretty good buds. I am sure glad when Janiel gets home to help out. Curtis can run you silly.
Nursing School has gone good this semester. Right now I have a 87% going into the final. I still have over a 140 more points of papers for my teacher to grade still so hopefully my 87% sticks with those points. those points are worth 14% of my total grade and my final is worth 15% of my grade. And for those of you who dont know 80% is passing for nursing...thats right...a C is a failing grade. I also juggle two jobs and that is going suprizingly well. I work for Gentle Care and am very gratefull for my employer who works with my schedule with school. My other job is usually one or two evenings a week. So its been a great blessing to have jobs that mostly don't interfere with school.
Janiel has been enjoying her new coaching job of freshman girls thatcher highschool B-ball. I havent seen a game yet but want to. Janiel gets alot of enjoyment from coaching. She also has been working out a bit more than usual and has gotten P-90X to kick it up a noch. I think she wants to be able to dunk a volleyball once again. Go babe!
The end.

game 1
so today we had our first basketball game. (freshmen girls at Thatcher) and to be honest, i was very pleased! we played against silver city who has a reputation for being very physical, and high scoring. now, last year we lost to this same team by 30! today, we only lost by 2! a loss, is a loss...but it wasn't a blowout! im like a proud mother hen! there is still a ton to work on, but i believe we have come so far in just 3 weeks of practice. seriously, i'm beaming!

Dear Cousin,
I like you. We could have been great friends, but you moved away to go to school or something. I guess we can remain good friends. I've had to settle for your weekend visits where most of your time is spent at home! (pfffft!) But next time you come home (it's a long weekend) you better believe it will be filled with volleyball, Guitar Hero, The Office, and TURKEY! That's like 4 of my top 5 favorite things! Cant go wrong with that! So here's the deal...you get back into town, we eat, we play, and we eat some more. Maybe watch a musical? Got it?

Happy Birthday to You...
Today is my Grandmothers birthday and i would just like to send warm wishes and love to family and friends who knew her. Today would have been her 80th birthday. She was a wonderful woman who always put others first. Her love for the church was admirable! Her service in the church is something we all should aspire to...especially missionary work. We all loved her dearly, and know she's watching over us. We miss you Grandma! Happy Birthday!
words of wisdom
I found this link on my friends facebook page. And i feel it is important to share. Thanks Heather!
"Barack Obama was not my choice, but he is my president. That is true of all Americans. For the last eight years, there has been an ongoing campaign of destruction meant to handicap and hobble the last president. I refuse to be part of an effort to do the same to the next president. Those who didn't vote for Barack Obama must set a higher standard of civility and citizenship than those who didn't vote for George W. Bush. In defeat, there must still be nobility.
"That doesn't mean silent servility. It doesn't mean differences and principles are ignored.
"But it does mean the new president gets a new chance. It means we all must pray for him and work with him to make our country stronger and safer and better.
"The last eight years have taught us what happens when you set out to destroy a presidency for political gain. You help your candidate, but you hurt your country. That pattern must not be followed with this new president. America must treat Barack Obama better than he treated George W. Bush."
I couldn't have said it better myself.

Giddy
At least thats i felt today when i got this:

I wore my sticker with pride! Never have i been more excited to get a sticker! I accuatly felt a sence of accomplishment when i exited the voting place. I felt like i was making a difference. God Bless America!
How to get a TAN in November
Because we have so many days until our next game (we, as in the volleyball team...and the game is on the 11th) yesterday we made the girls run outside to break up the cycle of practice. Shari had the girls run what is called "volleyball miles"...weaving through the bleachers and then a lap around the track. well, the girls had to complete 8 laps and i decided to run with them. however, the thought of running the bleachers would ruin the delight of an afternoon run. so i ran with Marci, our cripple (she had knee surgery in the spring and is still recovering). the run was great, and just what i needed.
Every Monday i teach my Volleyball Class which consists of 20-30 students just coming and playing volleyball in the gym. Well, these students have seen me week after week and only know me from class. Last night i got several compliments from my students saying how tan i looked. HA! i only ran for 20 minuets and got a tan!!! i guess the glistening from my sweat attracted the sun! who'd a thought.

Cottin' Pickin' Halloween
As mentioned before, Curtis love to watch his "tractor show". And i thought for months about what Curtis was going to be for Halloween. While watching the "tractor show" it hit me. Perfect! Like any other frugal mom, i hunted down so cardboard boxes and began construction just 3 days before the holiday. I knew he wouldn't know what it all ment or what it was all for, but i wanted him to have the experience. Unfortunatly i had a volleyball game that night (Division 1 Championship!!!) so i couldn't spend much time with Curtis Trick or Treating. So we went to the Carnaval in Thatcher. We went to every trunk. Curtis was timid because everything was scary (funny to see his sence of danger at this age) but i think he enjoyed getting the candy! But the best part of it all, he's still playing with his tractor! that and the fact i spent $5 on the perfect halloween costume!

"MORE BEER?"
This has been a common phrase in my house lately. 'Why?' you may ask? This morning he came up to me and asked "more beer?" I looked at him, thought for a moment, and said "what?"... he then said with a more demanding inflection "MORE BEER?" while pointing to the TV. At that moment i knew what he wanted. We recently bought "The Jungle Book" for Curtis to enjoy. We thought he would like the monkeys and the panthers, but surprisingly he likes the "beer".
For his birthday, we got a DVD about Tractors and Horses. And just now (i kid you not) curtis asked me if he could watch the "hore". LOL. this kid makes me laugh!

thankful thursday...number 2
well, not much has changed in a week. but i do have one little thing to be thankful for.
Curtis has been so much fun lately. he has been talking so much these days. he's even saying complete phrases. my two favorites are "hey, don't do that!" and "get back here". today he kept lifting up his shirt and saying "my belly" and then kept putting his belly in my face so i would blow rasberries on it. he begs his daddy to take him out on bicycle rides. he tells us when he wants to leave the house by saying "car mommy...go to house" (house is grandma's house). he is obsessed with tractors. anything john deere, or if it has an appearance of a tractor...expect one happy boy. he makes my life happy.

Thankful Thursday...
I saw this on a friends blog and thought it was a fantastic idea. I hope that i will be able to keep it up every week. Things have been busy here at home, it will be nice for me to reflect and be thankful.
1. I'm so thankful for my job. When we moved back to the gila valley, we decided that clifton would focus on school and i would get a job and support our family. This volleyball coaching gig fell into my lap, and i cannot express how much i love it. Working with these girls gives me such pleasure (especially when we win), that i pretty sure its what i want to do for my career. Now, i don't know at what level or gender (i hear boys are easier to coach than girls...hmm), but i love teaching the game. And watching these girls fall in love with the game is amazing.
2. Im thankful for my OTHER job. Last season when we would travel on our road trips, i thought to myself, "i'm going, I might as well drive!" So I got my CDL, and now drive at least once a week...sometimes twice or as in this week, three. I find it relaxing to just be gone for an evening, and call it a job. It does get hard at times when we have the long trips (the games start at 7, and dont get over until 9 sometimes 9:30), but i find ways around the sleepiness. I enjoy relaxing and having time to think on the open road.
Oh yeah, i'm thankful for my OTHER, OTHER job. i teach a volleyball class one night a week at the college. An average of 40-50 students attend, and just play. So much fun.
3. I'm thankful for Bishop's who care.
4. I'm thankful for friends who listen with love. You know who you are... I love you squezzie-q.
5. I'm thankful for my health and the desire to get and stay healthy. Not just physicaly, but mentaly. Ah to be sain...someday.

BLEED GREEN!

As of last week, i am officially the Assistant Womens Basketball Coach at Thatcher High School! Coach Henson called me and asked if I would be willing to help out. He said,"I'm looking for 3 things; 1. i want someone who knows my program. 2. i want someone who has some coaching experience. and 3. i want a female on the staff." I am all 3 of those things! Fantastic! Coach Henson was my basketball coach from 5th grade until my junior year in high school. Under the program he built we went to state every year. We lost in the final game of my freshman year (i was not liked by many seniors who didn't get to play because he moved me up) but every year after that it was Gold Ball or nothing! (the state trophy is a gold ball ;) His last year coaching at the high school was in 2002 (my junior year) because EAC offered him a teaching job in their science department. And even though we took state my senior year, it wasn't the same without him. Now, the high school asked him to come and coach. I am so looking forward to working with him. He is a fantastic coach who taught me so much about sports and life. I know i can learn so much from him about how to coach girls! I will also be working with one of my favorite teachers from high school. Mr. Cramer! how awesome is that!!! Can't wait to see what kind of fun we will have!

Happy Birthday...and other stuff too
Last friday (september 12th) my baby boy turned 2 years old. What the H? He's not a baby anymore...he's a toddler for sure. I was out of town at a tourney on his actual birthday, but we celebrated on sunday with some presents and candles in a cinamin roll. Next year we will make a bigger deal about it, but he was happy with everything. he knew how to open the presents, but seemed more interested ripping up the tissue paper than finding what was inside.
