"my new favorite toy"

A couple of days ago we were at "Autie Leah's" house and Curtis found this Push-along toy. HE LOVES IT!! Almost too much...I have to hide if from him because he wants to walk with it all the time. But there is one thing about Curtis that you have to understand...He has this competitive nature (who knows where is got that from) where he wants to do everything right the first time! So ever time he runs into a wall, or hits a couch, or gets snagged in the carpet, y'all better watch out cause somethin' fierce is comin' your way! He's only 10 months old and I'm not ready for him to walk yet! Don't you just love his chiken legs?

Rub-a-dub-dub!

Curtis loves his baths! This is in Grandma's old kitchen sink in the laundry room (the perfect tub for babies). Every time i try to get him out of the bath, he cries. He can sit there and play for an hour. Unless he's bathing with his cousins, then he sits in the corner and watches them play. What a cutie!

One thing about Curtis' hair, the majority of the growth is on the top. He has a comb-over that is so sweet! Just like an old man.

So Long, Farewell

Well, we sent Chris to the MTC yesterday. All of the family was there at the airport to send him on his way. A few tears were shed, but there was this calm assurance in my heart. I felt peace knowing that he was doing the Lords will. Good Luck Elder Udall, we will be praying for you!

What's up with THAT? sorry no pictures

You know what happens, when life happens? You fall behind on your blog…or at least I do. It’s been about 2 months since I posted and I don’t even know where to begin with an update, so forgive me if this post seems a little long winded.
At the end of May, we began negotiations to purchase an acre of land in Thatcher, because as many of you know, Clifton got accepted in the nursing program at EAC so we get to move back HOME!!! With the way the market is down there, we have found out that it is cheaper to pay a mortgage than rent. Thus began our search for a place to live. My mom found several pieces of land that seemed to be a great deal and so we put an offer down and the owners accepted! Now what do we do with the land? We found a company in Chandler that builds manufactured homes and sells them at factory prices. This has several perks because we got to choose our own layout, size, additional options, colors, etc. We found a model that we liked and it just happened to be on sale (about $11,000 off the original price)!!! I just got back from the factory last Friday, and it is in process and we have set a tentative date of delivery in the beginning of September!!! Until then, my wonderful parents have offered to let us live in their house until ours is finished. After all, Chris is leaving on his mission in a week, so there will be an empty house!
Chris got his mission call to the Mozambique, Maputo Mission in AFRICA. He will be speaking Portuguese and he reports to the MTC on July 11th. We are all anxiously waiting to get rid of our little brother and send him to a foreign country!!! Just kidding Chris…We love you!
Things have been a little crazy the last couple of months…we have had family parties, family reunions, trips to the hospital, trips to Arizona, the joys of moving, the joys of buying a home, several milestones (like sleeping through the night!), and some bumps and bruises, but we’ll make it through okay!
Last Wednesday (June 27th) I was visiting my family in Mesa, and also ordering my home. Curtis was playing well with his cousins for about 5 minutes…he was supporting himself on a cruiser/walk along toy with wheels. One of his bigger cousins wanted that toy so she just walked away with it. Curtis fell down bonking his head on the ceramic tile. He screamed for a second, and then I picked him up. The next thing I knew, he was dead weight. I looked at his face and his eyes had rolled in the back of his head and he had no response to his name or any other noise. Lucky for me my brother-in-law Doug was there with me to reach for the phone to dial 911. However, before he could dial the numbers, Curtis came to. I was shaking so bad that I could barely stand. Never in my life have I experienced such terror. To feel your own child in your arms, go limp as if he had no life…I get sick just describing it. After regaining some composure, I called every medical person I knew, to ask what I should do. They said take him to the emergency room…so I did…at 9 pm. Everything checked out fine with Curtis…he plays normal, acts normal, and now we know that passing out is common. However, because it was related to a head injury, you can never be to cautious.
Speaking of Curtis, HE IS SLEEPING THROUGH THE NIGHT!!! We had a family reunion in Flagstaff a couple weeks ago, and Curtis woke up and wanted to play in the middle of the night. After that weekend of hardly any sleep, I decided that was enough. It’s been two weeks and he is sleeping like a BABY! And so am I!
Curtis wants to walk so badly. He has just started cruising and standing tall from a squatting position. I have no doubt that he has the strength, but his balance could use a little more work. Give it another week or two and I’ll be chasing him around!
Clifton and I are doing just fine. Currently, we have moved all of our belongings to Thatcher, and are living separately. Mostly because his job is too good to leave Grants, and my job begins in a week in Thatcher. It will take some getting used to, but I think that we will survive a month and a half!
We are just looking forward to our new home and a fresh start in Thatcher. We feel so blessed that Clifton got into the nursing program (by the way, he just took a medical calculations test and got 95 out of 100). We have many things to look forward to here in the near future and we just could not be happier!

Early May Update

I never thought that I would live in a place were it snowed in May. We woke up yesterday to flurries all morning long. I thought that I could put away all of my jackets and stuff (because thats what I would have done in Thatcher) but today's high is 55 degrees. BURRR!
Yesterday, after talking with my mom, she asked if we had checked our mail (mom has an inside look, now that she works in the registration department at EAC). Naturally, we went straight for the post office and sifted through the envolopes hoping to find one addressed to Clifton from EAC. We did find that letter and opened it on the spot. The first words read "Congratulations"...We realy didn't care to read after that (although we did). After 3 longs years of struggling to get into any nursing program, we have recieved the answer to our prayers. Mom said that Clifton was in the top ten students to be picked for the program. We never thought that we would move back to Thatcher ( at least not this soon), but we are coming home! It's gonna be weird though. We've only been gone a couple of years and it is not the town I grew up in. But I still love it.
So here are our plans...we have found some land for sale that seems like a pretty good deal. We are hoping to get finaced to purchase that land, and then put a Mobile Home on it. I know, a Mobile Home is not the best thing, but by the end of the summer we might be able to pay cash for one, and then all we will have is the land payment....which will be cheaper than paying rent somewhere. FYI, rent in Thatcher is CRAZY! The first place that we lived in, when we were first married, was $285 a month! Now, the same tiny place is $400 a month! So if all of our plans go well, we will own a piece of land, a home, and have payments cheeper than rent!!
My trip to Thatcher last week was full of excitement.
1) Chris got his mission call to MOZAMBIQUE, AFRICA!!
2) Curtis started to get the hang of crawling, and as soon as he did, he learned to sit up
3) I confirmed my job for next year as the Assistant Volleyball Coach at EAC
It's going to be nice not to travel as much to be with my family. Looking forward to that very much.
More about Curtis: These photos were taken by my sister Leah on her kitchen table. Isn't he CUTE with tiny butt crack? He is currently getting one of his bottom teeth in and is grumpy all of the time. After having 4 cousins to watch run around, he doesn't like playing alone. If I even get up out of my chair, he cries. He has started to throw tantrums, and hope it is just a phase. But when he is happy, he is a fun baby to be around. He giggles pretty easily, and loves to play peek-a-boo. What a cute kid!
We are so excited to have a missionary in our family. Chris is the only boy so it will be weird not to have him around at the family stuff, but we know that he will do well. We are looking forward to writting him...i've never really had a missionary to write too!
That's all from here in NM! Much love to all!

Just some favorite pics

Curtis does this pose a lot when he's reaching for something. Look at the form!
My litle Jail Bird!

Such a Big Boy!

6 Month Update (at 7 months old)

After about a month of no posts, I have a ton to catch up on.

Curtis is now 7 months old. He weighs 17 lbs. 3 oz, and is 27 3/4 inches long! Those numbers came from his 6 month apointment 2 weeks ago. The Dr. said that he is one of the heathiest babies in the area...I guess there are a lot of women here who did drugs while pregnant, and now their babies are paying the price. Anyway, Curtis' measurements bring him to the 50% for weight and the 90% for length. Long and Lean! About 2 weeks ago, Curtis started to get up on his hands and knees...first thing that came to my mind, "I'm not ready!" He started rocking back and forth, and actually moving to get what he wanted, until he biffed it and then burst into tears. To save himself from the frequent slams to the ground, he now army crawls. Just the last couple of days, he's improved his ground skills as if he'd known how to do it but his body just wasn't strong enough. He also sits up pretty good without help. He has learned to lay himself on the ground from, sitting to tummy, without getting hurt. If it wasn't for the cold ground (by the way, at 9 am this morning, it was 36 degrees) I would put him on the floor and let him go to town on all the toys. But no carpet makes for a really cold tummy.

Clifton and I celebrated our 3 year anniversary last monday (April 9th). For fun, we went to the zoo and looked at all the animals. The zoo only cost us $7 per person. It was so much fun. Curtis didn't get it unless the animals were moving (which is what we assumed would happen). The last two pictures are of us at the end of the day...Doesn't it look like Curtis had a great time?

He is such a good boy. We love him more and more everyday, and we cannot wait for him to grow up!

Sleeping Milestone

For the last 5 days, we have been working on a new technique to help Curtis sleep better at night and during the day. In a book (Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child) recommended to me by my sister Leah, it says that by the time the babies are 5 months old, they should be able to sleep up to 8 hours without being fed or needing to wake up. Curtis is six and a half now and he's was waking every 3-4 hours either out of habit, or actually needing to eat. He actually has a heathly sleep schedual, waking between 7-8, napping at 9, then noon, then 3, and then betime between 7-8. But his naps were only a half and hour, and he kept waking up during the night. The book recommended that we let him cry it out for 3 days, never letting the crying spells outlast an hour. The first night was tough, but he cried for about 45 minutes. The second night he only cried for 15. And last night, he cried for about 5 and then slept until 4:00 am. He eats dinner at about 6:00 so I top him off before I go to bed at about 10, leaving him no excuse to wake up for a while. I know that letting your babies cry it out is controvercial, but we really felt like something needed to be done. He wasn't happy, we weren't happy, and his craziness was getting out of control. He's been so much happier now that his sleep is more productive. I didn't feel like i was harming my baby letting him cry. The cry it out method worked for Curtis...and now we all sleep so much better!

What I learned in Sharing Time

I love kids imaginations...Here's a story that just happened today. - I was giving the sharing time lesson to the Jr. Primary. I had 2 copies of pictures (we played memory) of things that Jesus had done through his life. One of the set of pictures was of Jesus and the last supper...with the sacrament. I said to the children, "What is Jesus doing in this picture?" One of the Sunbeams replies, in all her glory, "That's Jesus eating cheese!"...Kids can be so funny and immaginative. I think I'm beginning to like my calling(s). I'm also the pianist...sundays are busy!

The Reason for the Fussyness

A couple nights ago, Curtis could not sleep. He and I both got about 4 hours of solid sleep. I seriously tried every kind of medicin that I had...Tylenol, teething tablets, gas relief, etc. NOTHING worked. He was fussy the following day (Wednesday) due to lack of sleep, and something was bugging him. He would just wake up screaming in pain. At about 9:30 last night, I went over to my in-laws to see if they could help me. Keep in mind that Clifton is in Las Vegas for a convention. Anyway, I'm thinking of all of his symptoms...he's had a cold the last week and a half, lots of poop, can't sleep at night, and a low grade fever. So Lisa, my m-in-law suggests it an ear infection. I search on the internet for symptoms of an ear infection, and he has just about every single one. After about 2 hours of solid crying, he fell asleep. I thought to myself, i'll just take him into the doctor tomorrow (our regular doctor is out of town so I would just have taken him to the office and have the other doctor look at him). Just kidding...he'd only been sleeping for an hour when he woke again screaming in pain. I decided it was time to go to the hospital. So I loaded my sick baby into the car at 12:30 a.m. to see what the doctor at the hospital would say. Curtis has an infection in his left ear, and his right ear is in the early stages. I got an antibiotic, and was on my way within an hour.

It's hard when your baby is sick...you don't sleep, you forget to eat, and your worried all the time. My face is breaking out already. Being a mom is hard stuff. People are crazy to have more than one!! hehe
Curtis also loves to sit up! He's such a big boy!

Look how CUTE I am!

Sleepless Nights

About a week ago, I was attempting to ween Curtis from the night feedings...then he got sick. He had this horable cough that was deep in his chest. It has slowly worked it's way up into his nose and now he has a hard time breathing at night because he likes to sleep with a binky. So during this sickness time, i've felt bad for him. I've been feeding him 3-4 times a night! We've taken a step backwards from the weening. Curtis is still sick and I'm looking forward to when he gets better, so I (and he) can get some sleep.

All American Boy

Constuction has BEGUN!

And it's about dang time too! This is the construction of our bathrooms/laudry room! HOORAY! it is a big space but it will give the family 2 and 1/2 bathrooms as compared to before, with just 1 and 1/2. I feel so relieved that this is happening, however, we probably wont be able to enjoy it for long because we will be moving soon! (hopefully) But at least the when all of the family comes they will have a nice place to stay.

Do we DARE start SOLIDS?

Tonight was the first time we tried rice cereal with Curtis. He did fairly well! We couldn't get the food to him fast enough. He actually kept the majority of the cereal in his mouth. He acted like "Where has this been the last 5 months?" But there is no turning back now! Hopefully this will help him sleep through the night a little better (he's still waking up 2-3 times to eat). He's getting so big!

Sorry...where have I been?

Well, the last month has been pretty crazy...nursing program applications, appartment applications, parties to go to, finding out my calling has doubled, etc. But we press on, right? Here's the update:
About 3 weeks ago, NMSU told Clifton that he's not eligible for their nursing program...when 4 months ago, they were assuring us that we were a shoe-in. With this news, I ventured out on a nursing program application spree! I litterally filled out a dozen applications for Clifton, if he had the requirements or not. Looking at all the information from all the schools, it looks like we are moving back to Thatcher. We know that he can get into their program, because he got in before we left for Silver City. But before we count all of our chickens, we have to GET IN the program! We hate having other people decide our future.
I was talking to my old volleyball coach Shari Kay, and she's so supportive of us coming back to Thatcher, that she offered me the assistant coaching job there at EAC. I would LOVE that job! Seriously, when she told me that, i thought to myself...Okay, we're moving back! But other things gotta happen before I can take that job! Yeah!
With the possibility of moving to Thatcher, we need to find a place to live! There are some BRAND-SPANKIN' new appartments behind the John Deere implement, but they are all full for at least a year. But at least we have our names on the wating list! There are other appartments near the hospital that we could get into. The lady I talked to said that she has a hard time finding people eligible to live there. So there is a possibility.... We haven't exactly looked into other options such as renting a house, or a trailor, or another place of living, but when we know we get into a program, then we'll buckle down and really start lookin'.
The next few weeks will be dedicated to building our bathroom! We are commited to Clifton's parents to have that done before we leave. But after we leave, they are thinking about moving into our place. I think that's a great idea!
The applications are in, all we have to do is wait!
Our life is in limbo...and we hate it...but we have Curtis to make things all better. He's our sunshine on every cloudy day! He's becoming more vocal and stronger everyday. He can partially sit up (not without support), and he can roll from back to tummy to his right. He loves playing with my hair, and playing peak-a-boo. I can feel that he loves us!

Curious Curtis

This is Curtis the day after sickness...one of the most stressful days of my life. At about midnight (Friday night), he threw up everything that was in his stomach, then again at about 4:30, and then 7:30, and then 11:30 a.m. I'm not just talking about little bits of spit up, this was cup fulls of milk. He was becoming dehydrated, and chapped. It's so hard to see your baby like that. Curtis was very lazy and not himself yesterday. Mommy wasn't herself either. I was awake with him at 4:30 and didn't get to bed until 11:00 p.m. Sure was a long day. But after feeding him very little every hour, (about an ounce every hour) he was gradually able to hold down his food. And I am happy to report that he hasn't thrown up and he blew out of 3 diapers this morning!
These pictures are of Curtis' normal expression. Generally he looks like this when he's looking for something, concentrating on something, or in a daze. Silly boy!

Curtis' First Swim

Last weekend we spent time at my parents condo/resort. There was a fun pool and jacuzzi to play in...so we did! Curtis seemed to like it very much. We'll definatly be going swimming in the summer!

4 Months Old...And Getting Bigger!

We went to the doctor today to have shots done. NOT FUN! I hate hearing the terror in his scream. But we gotta do it...right? We also found out that he weighs 14 lbs. 8 oz. and he is 26 inches long. So for length, he's in the 95th percentile, and 75 for weight. VERY FUN! Every time we see the doctor he tells me that I was one of the best deliveries he's done...given the circumstance (the knot in the cord, and wrapped around twice, etc.). He also comments on how tall I am every time. Silly. But things are good here...still snow on the ground and expecting more this weekend. Never thought I would live in place that kept snow on the ground for longer than an hour.
